Born
and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Marke Pedersen attended
high school and University in Calgary and graduated
with a B.Sc. He obtained his DDS from the University
of Alberta in Edmonton in 1971. He then moved to Vernon,
BC to set up a general practice in Dentistry.
Dr. Pedersen has held many professional
appointments including:
- 1987-1991 - Treasurer, vice-president
and president of the College of Dental Surgeons of
BC
- 1992-1994 - President of the College
of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia
- 1992-1998 - Canadian Dental Association
Board of Governors
- 1994-1996 - Inaugural president of
the Federation of BC Dental Societies
- 2000-Present - Director of the Pacific
Dental Conference
as well as Fellowships & Awards which
include:
- Fellowship in the International College
of Dentists.
- Fellowship in the American College
of Dentists.
- Paul Harris Fellowship by the Rotary
International Foundation.
- Distinguished Service Award from the
College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia for
his many years of service to his profession.
- Certificate of Merit from CDA.
- The highest award the College of Dental Surgeons has to offer -- that of Honorable Member in March 2007.
Since January 2000, Dr. Pedersen has
studied new concepts in neuromuscular dentistry and
aesthetic dentistry at the Las
Vegas Institute of Advanced Dental Studies. He
has successfully completed the following courses
at LVI: Neuromuscular Edentulous Treatment, Occlusion, Advanced Occlusion, Advanced Anterior
Dentistry, Comprehensive Aesthetic Reconstruction,
Mastering Neuromuscular Occlusion, Myotronic k6/k7
training, and Neuromusculat Coronoplasty, Case Finishing
and Full Mouth Reconstruction, also advanced scan
interpretation and diagnosis. Dr. Marke Pedersen is
now a recognized and designated LVI graduate by number
of courses completed.
Locally, Dr. Pedersen has been President
of the Vernon Ski Club and more recently was President
of the Vernon Rotary Club. Dr. Pedersen is an avid
skier and mountaineer with a love of the Arctic. In
1997 he made a trip to Baffin Island to climb and
in 1999 he skied to the North Pole from the Russian
side of the Arctic. Dr. Pedersen and
his family hiked the Chilkoot Trail, and the West Coast
Trail. This summer they plan a trip to the East Coast.
